RITTBR is a free online Bible study resource for anyone who is interested in reading and researching scripture on the Internet. We offer many tools and references to assist in your study of God's word. Use the tools/references below to learn how to study the Bible, read the Bible through in a year, free printable journals, search the Bible for specific words or verses, and search through the many references (concordances, dictionaries, commentaries, encyclopedias, and lexicons).


Studying the Bible

Follow these suggested steps for a successful study of the Bible:

  1. Locate a quiet place to be alone with God.
  2. Decide on a specific timeframe to study the Word, and keep it!
  3. Collect your Bible, concordance, dictionary, journal, & writing tools.
  4. Pray before you begin to study and ask God to: open your spirit and mind to receive His Word; reveal the meaning; provide you wisdom, knowledge, and understanding.
  5. Try to read at least one to three chapters.
  6. Read the specific chapters or verses through again.
  7. Use a Bible Concordance to search the meaning of unfamiliar words and to read about a specific person.
  8. Enter your notes in a journal or notebook for later reference (print out and use the free journal pages below).
  9. Write a summary of the passage in your own words; write what you hear God is saying to you.
  10. Think and write about how you can apply the passage to your life.
  11. Pray and give thanks to God at the end of your study.

Bible Reading Plan

We must feed our soul daily with the word of God. In 2 Timothy 2:15, it tells us to study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved, a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing the Word of Truth.

The 1599 Geneva Study Bible
This version of the Bible was the most widely read and influential English Bible of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. A superb translation, it was the product of the best Protestant scholars of the day and became the Bible of choice for many of the greatest writers and thinkers of that time. Men such as William Shakespeare, John Bunyan, and John Milton used the Geneva Bible in their writings. William Bradford also cited the Geneva Bible in his famous book Of Plymouth Plantation.

Originally produced by Orville J. Nave, A.M., D.D., LL.D. while serving as a Chaplin in the United States Army, he referred to this work as "the result of fourteen years of delightful and untiring study of the Word of God." Strong's Exhaustive Concordance
The Strong's Exhaustive Concordance is the most complete, easy-to-use, and understandable concordance for studying the original languages of the Bible. Combining the text of the King James Bible with the power of the Greek and Hebrew Lexicons, any student or pastor can gain a clear understanding of the Word to enrich their study.

Torrey's New Topical Textbook
These topical references are from R. A. Torrey's New Topical Textbook published by Sword of the Lord Publishers, P.O. Box 1099, Murfreesboro, TN, 37133. The New Topical Textbook was published with 20,000 Topics and Sub-topics and 30,000 Bible References.

Treasury Of Scripture Knowledge
For generations, the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge has been an enduring cross-reference resource for Bible students worldwide. This highly respected and nearly exhaustive compilation of cross-references was developed by R.A. Torrey from references in the Rev. Thomas Scott's Commentary and the Comprehensive Bible. With nearly 500,000 cross-references it is the most thorough source available.

Encyclopedias
Condensed Biblical Cyclopedia
This encyclopedia, written in 1896 by Ashley S. Johnson, founder of Johnson Bible College, was and is designed for busy people who wish to increase their knowledge of the oracles of God.

Scripture Alphabet of Animals
Here is a short study on thirty-three animals mentioned in the Bible. Some of the animals have alternate names as we know them today.

Commentaries
Commentary Critical and Explanatory on the Whole Bible
This one volume commentary was prepared by Robert Jamieson, A. R. Fausset and David Brown and published in 1871.

The Fourfold Gospel
Also known as a "Harmony of the Four Gospels", this work by J. W. McGarvey and Philip Y. Pendleton is a complete chronology of the life of Christ, divided into titled sections and sub-divisions, with comments injected in the text.

Gill's Exposition of the Bible
He preached in the same church as C. H. Spurgeon over one hundred years earlier. Yet most people today have never heard of John Gill. This is unfortunate, since his works contain priceless gems of information that are found nowhere except in the ancient writings of the Jews. Presented here is a verse by verse exposition of the New Testament.

Jamieson, Fausset, Brown Commentary
The commentaries of Robert Jamieson, A.R. Fausset & David Brown were originally published in 1871.

John Darby Synopsis New Testament
Originally written and published in French, these synopses were introduced book by book. Currently only the New Testament is available.

Matthew Henry's Copmplete Commentary
Originally written in 1706, Matthew Henry's six volume Complete Commentary provides an exhaustive look at every verse in the Bible.

People's New Testament
Written in 1891 for the novice student of the Bible, this work was prepared with such aids as would enable the common reader to arrive at an understanding of every verse.

Scofield Reference Notes (1917 Edition)
For over 90 years people have relied on this reference work in their daily study of God's Word. Written originally in 1909, C. I. Scofield's intent was to provide a concise but complete tool that would meet the need of someone just beginning to read the Bible.

Robertson's Word Pictures
A.T. Robertson, a renowned scholar of the Greek New Testament, takes through the New Testament, verse by verse, painting word pictures from the Greek to bring to light the words and actions of Jesus and the early Christians.

Treasury of David
This seven volume "magnum opus", by Charles H. Spurgeon, was first published in weekly installments over a twenty-year span in the London Metropolitan Tabernacle's periodical, The Sword and the Trowel. As each section was completed it was published as a volume until the seventh and final volume was released in 1885.

Wesley's Explanatory Notes
John Wesley's commentary on the whole Bible was produced between 1754 and 1765.

Dictionaries
Baker's Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology
One of the most useful and practical theological reference books in print. With bibliographies for most entries, further study is quite practical. Combined with the power of the Online Study Bible verse search readers can locate theological concepts related to the scripture they are studying.

Easton's Bible Dictionary
Easton's Bible Dictionary was authored by Matthew George Easton (1823-1894). In addition to his Bible dictionary, this Scottish Presbyterian's most significant literary achievements were his English translations of two of Franz Delitzsch's commentaries.

Hitchcock's Bible Names
This dictionary is from "Hitchcock's New and Complete Analysis of the Holy Bible," written by Roswell D. Hitchcock in 1869. It contains more than 2,500 Bible and Bible-related proper names and their meanings.

Jack Van Impe's Dictionary of Prophecy Terms
Presented here is Jack Van Impe's unique perspective on prophecy and the end times. Almost one thousand terms defined by one of the leading authorities on Biblical prophecy.

King James Dictionary
The King James Bible has stood its ground for nearly 400 years. However, during that time the English language has changed. With it has changed the meaning of some words used in the KJV. Here are over 800 words whose definitions have changed since 1611.

Smith's Bible Dictionary
Over 4,500 subjects and proper names are defined and analyzed with corresponding Scripture references. "Smith's Bible Dictionary" has been used by students of the Bible since its introduction in the 1860's. A trustworthy classic that is more than just a dictionary defining thousands of Biblical words.

Lexicons
New Testament Greek Lexicon
The New Testament Greek lexicon based on Thayer's and Smith's Bible Dictionary plus others; this is keyed to the large Kittel and the "Theological Dictionary of the New Testament." Also included are RealAudio pronunciations of each word with alternate pronunciations if available.

Old Testament Hebrew Lexicon
The Old Testament Hebrew lexicon is Brown, Driver, Briggs, Gesenius Lexicon; this is keyed to the "Theological Word Book of the Old Testament." Also included are RealAudio pronunciations of each word with alternate pronunciations if available.
